Knitting, spinning machines to be smuggled to India seized

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday seized 16 knitting machines and two ring spinning machines at Benapole border under Sarsa Upazila in Jessore. BGB said the machines were about to be smuggled out to India. Jessore-26 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Jahangir Hossain said, ‘The machines were found in a house at Bara Achra border point at Benapole.’ None of the smugglers could be arrested. BGB commander Col Jahangir said ‘BGB received a tip-off that a smuggling racket is storing knitting and ring spinning machines at a house near Bara Achra border.’ A petrol team led by Benapole Sadar Company Commander Subedar Rafiq raided the house of one ‘Zahidul’ at Bara Achra. The team seized 16 knitting machines (power loom) and two ring spinning machines. Col Jahangir said the value of the seized machines would be Tk 10 million, according to a news agency.
