Knitwear fair begins tomorrow

A three-day knitwear fair-Knit Exposition 2008-will kick off tomorrow (Monday) in Dhaka to display the latest innovations and bring manufactures, buyers and policy makers on a common platform, BKMEA said Saturday.
Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the fair at a city hotel.
This is the fourth Bangladesh Knitwear Exhibition since 2004.
"We are going to organise the fourth exhibition from October 20 to display our products and give a fresh momentum to the manufacturers, buyers, exporters," said Md Fazlul Hoque, president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).
A total of 56 local knitwear manufacturers will display their products in the fair. Apart from this, two Japanese stalls will also display their products.
For the first time, through the fair, BKMEA is going to focus on Japan as a potential export destination.
"Japan holds the most potential for the knit sector as the country imports apparels worth US$ 8.9 billion a year," BKMEA chief added.
Bangladesh exported US$ 6.3 million in the last fiscal to Japan whose own apparel export is around US$ 10 billion.
Fazlul said buyers form USA, Canada, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Hong Kong and Sudan are like to visit the fair.
BKMEA president said: "At least 10 Japanese buyers will visit the fair which might help to explore a new destination for the Bangladesh knit sector."
The BKMEA will also organise two seminars on the eve of the fair. One seminar will be on the new dimension in World apparel sourcing: opportunities and challenges for Bangladesh. The other will be on the productivity improvement through lean manufacturing: challenges and opportunities for Bangladesh knitwear sector.
Finance Adviser Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam, Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman and Labour and Employment Adviser Md Anwarul Iqbal are likely to join as special guests during inauguration function.
