Formation of a knowledge-based society in Bangladesh is a must for sustainable development and addressing the challenges of the 21st century, said Indian former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
He said an education system, promoted with creativity and innovation, for a country like Bangladesh is very crucial to transform its universities into powerhouses of knowledge.
"I think the key job of universities is to develop confidence and commitment among students for their capacity building to lead the nation towards progress and prosperity," he said.
The former Indian President, also a world-renowned nuclear scientist, made the observations while delivering a speech on 'capacity building for national development' as the chief guest at a reception ceremony at Dhaka University (DU) senate building Monday.
DU organised the function in honour of the world famous nuclear scientist, who came to Bangladesh on a three-day private visit Sunday.
The former Indian President laid emphasis on forming a world knowledge platform which might help generate great political leaders and scientists to resolve the global crises.
