Kohli keeps Bangalore IPL hopes alive

Saturday, 21 May 2022

Royal Challengers Bangalore kept their playoffs hopes alive after a commanding win over Gujarat Titans that took them to 16 points, with Virat Kohli top-scoring in a clinical chase, according to Cricbuzz.
Kohli took a couple of overs to get his eye in before announcing his intentions with lofts straight down and through the covers against Mohammed Shami. Luck went his way when his flick against Hardik Pandya was put down by Rashid Khan at deep square leg.
Kohli though marched on with similar intent in the powerplay, lofting Rashid and pulling Yash Dayal to end with a boundary-filled 34 in RCB's powerplay score of 49. It set the ball rolling for a confidence-boosting 73 - Kohli's highest in IPL 2022 - that was filled with emotional fist pumps and a 115-run stand with Faf du Plessis.
Du Plessis too managed to get timely boundaries right through the opening stand that allowed RCB to keep close to the required rate for a large part. But as Rashid bagged both him and Kohli towards the latter half, RCB was powered forward by Glenn Maxwell's cameo.
With 49 needed off the last five, Maxwell immediately got going hitting Pandya for two fours and a six before continuing in the same vein right through in his 18-ball 40 that helped overhaul Gujarat's 168 with 8 balls to spare.
