Korea jobs: Skill test for BD workers begins

Friday, 21 February 2014

The skill test for Bangladeshi job seekers in South Korea started at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre here on Friday with some 571 Bangladeshi job seekers taking part in it. Employment Permit System (EPS) Centre in Bangladesh is conducting the test that will continue till February 25. Director of the EPS Centre Lee Min-Hwa said Korean companies will feel encouraged to hire more Bangladeshi workers if they continue to work with sincerity without changing their present job station.
The official also said there is a bright prospect for Bangladeshi workers to go to Korea in a larger number if the number of illegal workers drops further. Some 10,000 Bangladeshi workers have so far got jobs in South Korea through a government-to-government initiative under the EPS since 2008, said an official on Friday. Bangladesh signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the EPS with the Korean government on June 4, 2007 which founded the principles of sending manpower from Bangladesh to Korea. The first batch of Bangladeshi workers under the EPS went to South Korea on June 3, 2008. Since then, Bangladeshi workers are going to Korea with employment on a regular basis. South Korea introduced the skill test aimed at assessing and improving the competence of Bangladeshi migrants to that country, according to a news agency.
