Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND) is set to open its country office in Dhaka next month aimed at widening the scope of funding for the country's development projects, including public-private partnership (PPP) ones.
Sources said the decision to open the country office was taken at the Bangladesh-Korea platform meeting held in Korea in March, 2022.
They said a formal ceremony on opening of the office under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will be held on August 22.
Officials at PPP Authority said Korean investors have been making investment in the road, rail and bridge construction projects, creating the scope for funding of US$ 10 billion.
"Under the PPP, the scope for funding of US$ 10 billion has been created as Korean investment is set to be made in the construction of Dhaka-Mymensingh Expressway, Dhaka Circular Train and Meghna Bridge on Bhulta-Araihazar-Bancharam Road," said an official
He said a good progress has been made in new investment proposals in Chittagong WASA and water supply in Bangabandhu industrial zone during the last PPP platform meeting.
A KIND delegation visited the country to hold talks with the government agencies concerned last week for ensuring the investment opportunities in the country. The Roads and Highways Department is implementing the project "Improvement of Dhaka (Joydebpur)-Mymensingh Road into Expressway with Service Lane on both sides" at an estimated cost of Tk 33.53 billion.
