CHITTAGONG, May 5: Bangladesh has further advanced in the ship building sector as a private company has successfully built three cutter suction dredgers for the government.
The industry for the first time has achieved success in dredger building as the country is in need of adequate number of dredgers for making the inland water routes navigable.
Karnafuli Ship Builders Ltd (KSBL), a major manufacturer in the field, has constructed three dredgers under joint venture with the Netherlands ship building company Vosta LMG BV and they are now ready at the company's shipyard for delivery to state-owned enterprise BIWTA by the end of May 2011.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the handing over ceremony as chief guest to be organised at Narayanganj, company officials said.
