KUET female students besiege admin bldg

KHULNA, Oct 17 (UNB): Female students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on Monday laid a siege to its administrative building demanding punishment to stalkers.The agitating students put the gate of the administrative building under lock and key in the morning, confining some teachers, officials and staff inside it for several hours. They prevented Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Alamgir from entering his office in the morning. VC Alamgir said the students have been demonstrating on the campus since morning protesting alleged sexual harassment of two female students of Mechanical Engineering Department on October 8 on the campus by a group of male students of KUET. He said they have been agitating for the last one week demanding exemplary punishments to the stalkers.Earlier, female students of KUET formed a human chain and brought out several processions on the campus to press home their demand. The agitating students said last week they demanded of the authority to take punitive action against the stalkers issuing a three-day ultimatum to meet their demand which the KUET authority did not fulfill.As the authority did not pay heed to their 1-point demand they opted for tougher movement to realize the demand, the agitating students said. Incidents of Eve-teasing have alarmingly increased in and around KUET campus in the last two years, general students alleged.
