NOAKHALI, Oct 18: Acute water crisis has been prevailing at Kuripara residential area of Alipur under Chaumuhani pourshava in Noakhali people's suffering for want of has reached beyond all proportions.
The authority concerned is seemingly remains quite callous in this regard.
Source said there are at least three thousand people at Kuripara area. Most of them are service holders in different important departments and the majority of them are women.
There are a big primary school, many mosques, a children's hospital, a ten-bed hospital and a momentous sanctuary of the Hindus. Numerous spiritual Hindus come to visit and perform their religious affairs.
It is a matter of regret that despite the said locality being a notable residential area, people here are severely hit by water crisis for around five years.
Irrespective of age and occupation people here have to go to remote places to ponds, canals and tanks for bathing and washing.
As a result they, specially the women, the old and the children have to endure untold hardships going out of doors.
Students as well as teachers of schools and madrashas have to go hither and thither, for a little drinking water. The problem reached its peak in the summer season.
Although there are some shallow and deep tubewells here, they are mostly out of order and few which are yielding waters, are full of iron or arsenics.
Very often people to gather at the water supply station for water and haggle with the authority. But the concerned personnel point to load shedding, machinery drawbacks and so on for water shortage.
Recently, more than two hundred people of the area, headed by Abdur Razzak, Latu Miah, Razzak engineer, Mozammel shaheb, Nepal Babu and some other leading persons went to the acting poura mayor Bachchu Miah with a big procession.
But allegedly, ignoring its problem of the locality, the mayor, instead of trying to appease them gently rather threat ended to cut off all the water lines.
However, at last under pressure of the people, some of his assistants assured them of supplying only one thousand litre of water by mobile tank.
Everyday lots of people have to remain standing in queue from morning till evening with pitches, pots, tubs, jugs, drums etc for water.
