KUSHTIA, Mar 27: The Northern Jute Mills is on the verge of closure due to shortage of yarn and mismanagement. According to sources the Mills was set up under Sadar upazila in1983. The name of it was Northern Jute Manufacturing Company Ltd. At least 4 hundred labourers were working in the Mills at the beginning of production. The products of the Mills are in good demand in different countries and were exported to USA, Egypt, Japan and various countries. It is known that there are 13 spring frame machines in the Mill. There are only 80 labourers in the Mill to operate the machines. As the production of the Mill has reduced significantly due to price hike and mismanagement the number of workers is very limited. As the salary of the workers is very poor they cannot cope with their families in today's price hiked market. It is alleged that the management did not take any measure to increase the salary of the workers.
