Kushtia make flying start

Kushtia DSA made a flying start beating Mymensingh DSA by 23-4 goals in the inaugural match of the Walton Air Conditioner National Youth (Under-19) Female Handball Tournament that began at Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the city Wednesday, reports UNB.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder inaugurated the 18-team weeklong meet organised by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) after more than 15 years.
Additional Director of the meet's sponsor RB Group (Walton) FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn, Chairman of the Manna Foundation Shely Manna, BHF General Secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor were present at the opening function, chaired by BHF President AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul.
Earlier, in the day's another match at the same venue, Dhaka DSA beat Rangamati DSA by 27-3 goals after dominating the first half 16-0.
In the day's other matches at Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur, Jamalpur DSA defeated Faridpur by 11-2 goals after leading the first half 6-0 while BJMC trounced Shariatpur DSA 32-0 after leading the first half 13-0.
Eighteen teams, split into six groups, are taking part in the first phase of the meet.
Later, six group champion teams will compete in the final round that will begin today (Thursday) at the Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium.
Both the semifinals will be held tomorrow (Friday) while the final match is scheduled for Aug 26 (Tuesday) at 3:30 pm. The 3rd place-deciding match between the two losing semifinalists will be held on Aug 24 (Sunday) at 3:30 pm, all at the Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium.
The champion team will get Tk 35,000; runners-up Tk 25,000; the 3rd ranked team Tk 20,000 and the 4th place finisher Tk 15,000 as prize money. Best player of the tournament will get Tk 5,000.
