Kuwait's deputy prime minister (DPM) has reassured Dhaka that the honest and hardworking Bangladeshis would not be the victims of deportation owing to the faults of a few compatriots, report UNB and bdnews24.com.
The assurance came as Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury telephoned the Kuwaiti DPM Sheikh Mohammed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah Wednesday night and sought his support to resolve the issues pertaining to the Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait.
Al-Sabah, also in charge of Kuwait's foreign ministry, also received Iftekhar's letter written to him Tuesday.
"Sheikh Mohammed assured the foreign adviser that the vast majority of honest, dedicated and hardworking Bangladeshis will not suffer for the faults of a few," Iftekhar told reporters at his office.
The conversation was "extremely warm and cordial" said the foreign adviser, adding that he might visit Kuwait at a convenient time in August.
The deputy prime minister said the foreign adviser would be most welcome to visit Kuwait at a mutually acceptable time. He also recalled the service that Bangladesh had rendered Kuwait by sending soldiers to fight side by side with the Kuwaitis to protect that country's sovereignty.
The foreign adviser thanked the deputy prime minister for his personal initiatives with regard to resolution of the problems of the Bangladeshi workers, and through the DPM the Kuwaiti cabinet for their recent decision on fixing the minimum wage for the foreign workers.
