Labaid doctor's registration suspended for 'neglect of duty'

The Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC) has suspended the registration of a doctor of Labaid Specialized Hospital for six months after a patient under his supervision died allegedly due to his negligence in duty.
This decision was announced in a circular signed by BM&DC Registrar (acting) Dr Md Anwarul Haque Forazi. The order will be effective from November 8.
During this time, the accused physician, M Shafiullah Kabir, (Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine) cannot provide any medical services anywhere as a doctor.
He cannot even identify himself as a doctor in these six months, said the circular.
BM&DC took the decision after the victim's wife Rasheda Hossain filed a complaint against the doctor for showing negligence in duty which caused the patient, Mosharraf Hossain Sufel's death.
Rasheda Hossain in the complaint to the BM&DC said her husband Mosharof Hossain had been admitted to Labaid Specialized Hospital with Covid-19 positive under Dr Kabir's supervision.
Afterwards the patient died due to negligence on the part of the doctor, she alleged.
Following the complaint, the Council interviewed and investigated both the complainant and the doctor and found evidence of substantial medical negligence on the part of the doctor.
Under such circumstance, the registration of Dr Kabir (A-16644) was suspended for six months.
The order will be effective from November 8, 2023. During the period, the doctor cannot provide any medical services anywhere; even at that time he cannot introduce himself as a doctor, said BM&DC.
