Lafarge organises science fair for Chhatak students

A day-long science fair was held at Chhatak recently.
Lafarge Surma Cement Limited, a leading cement maker of the country, in collaboration with local Upazila administration organised the fair.
Nearly 300 students from different educational institutions under Chhatak Upazila participated in the fair that generated enthusiasm among the people of Chhatak and adjoining areas.
Students displayed as many as 49 models or projects that included multiple rat traps to save crops, flood warning system, recycling tube lights to make TV antennas, hygienic cooking oven, eco-park, low cost disaster management, herbal mosquito coil etc. Most of the models exhibited local problems and their low-cost solutions.
Thousands of people, mostly students and teachers, from Chhatak and adjoining areas visited the fair. A live quiz contest was held at the end of the programme. The spontaneous question-answer session on basic science added vigour to the whole event.
Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj Md Saber Hossain attended the prize giving ceremony as the chief guest while educationist Dr Mohammad Zafar Iqbal was present as the special guest. TNO of Chhatak Md Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director of Lafarge Surma Cement Limited Mike Cowell and headmasters and principals of different schools and colleges of the Upazila were also present on the occasion.
The award of excellence prizes were won by Chhatak Bahumukhi High School in junior group, Chandranath Girls High School in intermediate group and Technical College in senior group. They were adjudged the best for innovativeness and good demonstrations.
