LafargeHolcim leads turnover chart

FE REPORT | Thursday, 7 April 2022

Ten most-traded stocks grabbed over 36 per cent of transactions on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) while LafargeHolcim Bangladesh dominated the turnover list after a long time.
Market operators said multinational cement producers topped the turnover list as investors showed their buying interest on its shares after the company resumed its aggregates business.
After six months of legal battle, recently the Ministry of Industries has allowed the company to resume its business of crushing and selling aggregates in the open market.
The permission will remain valid until the government finalises a policy on producing aggregates by crushing limestone, according to a disclosure posted on the DSE website on March 29.
According to statistics available with the DSE, some 5.06 million shares of LafargeHolcim were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 406 million, which was 8.28 per cent of the day's total turnover.
The company's share price also rose 1.90 per cent to close at Tk 80.40 on Wednesday. Its share price jumped over 30 per cent or Tk 18.60 each in the last one month in the falling market.
The company's shares traded between Tk 46.20 and Tk 107.50 in the last one year.
LafargeHolcim Bangladesh began crushing and selling aggregates in January 2021, and its profits began to soar with high margins in the construction commodity.
In 2021, the cement maker's sales jumped by 27 per cent year-on-year to Tk 20.53 billion and the net profit rose by 64 per cent to Tk 3.88 billion thanks to its aggregates business.
Riding on the profit growth, the company disbursed a 25 per cent cash dividend for 2021, the highest since it was listed on the capital market in 2003.
The company has also reported consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 3.34 as against Tk 2.03 for the same period of the previous year.
Beximco came second on the turnover list, with shares worth nearly Tk 401 million changing hands. The company's share price shed 0.20 per cent to close at Tk 149.20.
Kattali Textiles clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 155 million changing hands.
