Land donors shut three union community clinics in Pabna

PABNA, Apr 7: Agitated land donors shut three union community health complexes of Ishwardi Upazila of Pabna Wednesday for not getting job for the donors families since last 10 years. The land donors claimed that they had donated land for establishing community clinics on condition of getting job in health department but the authority is not paying heed to the condition. Sources said that the land donors along with their family members locked Solimpur Union community health centre, Lokhhmikunda Union Community Health centre and Pakshey Union Community Health Centre Wednesday. They are demanding fulfillment of the condition to provide job for at least one person from each donor family sources said. "I have donated land worth Tk 0.8 million to health department in 2000 for setting the community clinic on condition of job. My daughter-in-law would get the job in the community health centre. Recently the health department appointed health workers but my daughter-in -law did not get a job," Shakhina Khatun, the land donor claimed. "We have knocked the authority several times about the condition but we were refused," she claimed. When talked Dr. Ataur Rahman, Upazila Health and Family Planning officer confirmed the previous condition of job but said they (job seekers) were not allowed in written test. "The recruitment of the health department is controlled from the Directorate of Health (DG health). The local authority cannot guarantee anybody's job." Dr. Ataur Rahman said. Referring the shutting of the community clinics Dr. Ataur said that the upazila health department officials are trying to appease the donors.
