Land ready for 3rd plant of Essential Drugs

The government completed land acquisition and appointing consultancy firm for setting up the third plant of Essential Drugs Company Ltd (EDCL) in Gopalganj, the JS body on health was informed Tuesday.
The parliamentary standing committee on the health ministry was also informed that the infrastructure of the factory on the 10 acres of land was under construction.
The JS body was discussing the present activities of EDCL. Besides, the committee discussed filling up the approved vacant posts of occupational and speech therapists in the government hospitals with the aim to treat and rehabilitate the autism and neurology-related patients.
The committee urged the health ministry to upgrade the treatment services at all hospitals across the country and quick appointment anesthetist in those hospitals where necessary.
It was informed in the committee the process of company and product registration for exporting drugs to Sri Lanka was at the final stage.
Meanwhile EDCL has exported drugs worth US$ 0.133 million to Sri Lanka and a consignment of drugs worth US$ 0.42 million is under process. Besides exporting drugs to Myanmar and Vietnam is also under process, the meeting was informed.
The committee suggested completing the current project fast and increasing drug export alongside meeting the local demands.
The suggestions came at the 4th meeting of the committee at the parliament building with its chairman Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in the chair.
In another meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the land ministry, it was suggested to take necessary steps for quick settlement of the cases of Courts of Words (Nawab Estate and Bhawal Raj Estate) under the land reform board. The committee also decided to visit the Bhawal Raj Estate.
The suggestions came as the committee discussed the latest situation of land under Courts of Words and steps taken to appoint manpower in the vacant posts of land ministry and its other departments.
The committee suggested appropriate and effective measures to stop sand and earth extraction in various districts by violating laws.
The suggestions were made at the 10th meeting of the committee with its chairman Rezaul Karim Hira in the chair.
