Landport at Chilahati, speedy extraction of coal demanded

NILPHAMARI, Nov 30: Speakers at a seminar demanded landport at Chilahati and speedy extraction of coal and mineral resources discovered in Rangpur, Dinajpur and Jaipurhat under a comprehensive plan of development for the northern region of the country.
The seminar on "Development of Nilphamari and Northern Bangladesh: Prospects and Challenges" was jointly organised by Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Greater Rangpur Kalyan Samity in Dhaka at Nilphamari Circuit House recently.
Deputy Commissioner of Nilphamari Khondokar Md Mokhlesur Rahman inaugurated the seminar as the chief guest while Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Md Sohel Parvez presided over the function.
President of Greater Rangpur Kalyan Samity in Dhaka Md Nazrul Islam moderated the seminar.
The 22-point recommendation presented at the seminar included demand for mineral resource-based development plan, declaration of national coal-zone, extension of gas pipeline up to Rangpur and Dinajpur, incentive package for investment in agro-based industries, introduction of Chilahati-Dhaka inter-city train, reopening of Saidpur airport etc.
Former chief engineer of LGED Md Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, former member of PDB Md Fazlul Hoque and Chilahati Landport Implementation Committee Convener Abu Musa Mahmudul Hoque also spoke.
