Lanka drub Nepal in SA Games hockey

Wednesday, 3 February 2010

Sri Lanka put behind its first match's disappointment with a thumping 15-1 victory over Nepal in their second 11th South Asian Games Hockey at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the city Tuesday, reports UNB.
It was also the same old story for the Nepalese, who suffered defeats by huge margin against another Asian giant India (0-21) and Pakistan (0-19) in their previous two matches.
In the day's match, Abeyarathne scored six goals in the 3rd, 12th, 23nd, 24th, 38th and 56th minutes, Gazzaly struck twice in the 5th and 49th minutes, Dissanayaka scored in the 10th and 26th minutes, Mulaffer netted two goals in the 33rd and 68th minutes while Hettiarchchi and Hewaje netted and Jayasundara one goal each in the 17th and 69th and 60th minutes respectively for the winners.
Dipendra scored the consolation goal for the losers in the 60th minute.
Sri Lanka, which lost 3-1 to host Bangladesh in its first match, pushed the Nepalese into their own half with their better, attacking display and did not allow the vanquished any space to make any move.
