Large increase in Ctg Port entry fees

FE Report
Entry fees at the Chittagong Port have been raised sharply with effect from Wednesday last.
The government issued a gazette notification on February 17 raising the fees, a source said.
Earlier, the entry fee was fixed at Tk 0.50 for each person or any kind of vehicles.
Now the entry fee for a person has been fixed at Tk 10. For each truck the fee is Tk 50 and for a mini bus it is Tk 30.
Every day around 2,000 trucks enter the port to carry cargoes.
Chittagong Port director (traffic) Feroz Ahmed told the FE Friday that the government raised the fees with effect from Wednesday to increase the revenue income of the port.
"We tried earlier to raise the fees, but some vested quarters opposed it. This has been done after long 60 years," he added.
Port users, however, expressed their resentment at the hike in entry fees.
