Last day Eid shopping reaches peak in Ctg

With only a day before the Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, shopping spree reached peak as both modern and traditional shopping malls are bustling with shoppers from all walks of life. Shop owners said sales were showing an upward trend during last couple of days as people especially private and public service holders have already received their salaries and Eid bonuses. Salesmen could even forget the time of their meal and rest as sales scenario remained same from late morning to midnight at footpaths, makeshift sales centers and big shopping malls which are illuminated and vibrating mostly with women and adolescents, market sources said. ‘We are doing our business this year as people seem to be relieved from sense of insecurity, Golam Mostafa, General Secretary of Sholoshahar Shopping Complex Businessmen Association said. Shop owners said local products particularly 3-piece for girls, shoes, saris with embroidery and stone work, punjabis, shirts and trousers produced by different local fashion houses are the main centre of attractions to the customers. According to the importers and wholesalers, Saris and cosmetics from India are still dominating in the country’s Eid market while shoes, trousers, toys, readymade garments and electronic items from China, Taiwan and Thailand have occupied a space in the market. Unthinkably cheap but attractive electronics, toys and cookeries items from those countries also flooded the market and are gradually gaining popularity among the consumers, they said. Most of the shop owners in Shopping Complex, New Market, Amin Center, Mimi Super Market, Reazuddin Bazar, Central Plaza, Moti Tower, Lucky Plaza, Singapore Market and traditional Zahur Hawkers Market in the port city were happy so far with the sales of their products, according to BSS.
