Monday, 13 October 2014

Blasting former minister and Awami League presidium member Abdul Latif Siddique for his derogatory remarks against holy Hajj, great Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Islam, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Sunday he (Siddiqui) committed an abominable act by making the comment, reports BSS.
"The Awami League leaders and workers are pious and they have affection and love for the poor. I don't know why this happened. But it cannot be accepted that the people like him (Siddiqui) will move with us with this attitude," she said.
Sheikh Hasina, also the AL chief, said: "I think the offence Latif Siddiqui has made by making derogatory remarks against holy Hajj, great Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and Islam is a detestable act."
The Prime Minister said this while delivering her introductory speech at a meeting of the Awami League Central Working Committee (ALCWC) at her official Ganobhaban residence in the evening.
Sheikh Hasina said Awami League believes in secularism but that does not mean irreligiousness. "Secularism means showing honour to all religions," she said.

Terming Islam as a religion of peace, Sheikh Hasina said Islam is tolerant to all beliefs.
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is a country where the people of all faiths can practice their religions. "We have ensured it in our constitution," she said, adding the people of Bangladesh perform their respective religions with fervour and festivity.
Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Mohammad Nasim, Nooh-ul-Alam Lenin, Kazi Zafarullah, Satish Chandra Roy, Obaidul Quader, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Advocate Sahara Khatun and AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam were present on the occasion.
