Launch accident kills 1

A man was killed and 15 other people were injured in a collision between two passenger-packed launches in Padma River at Daulotdia under Goalondo Upazila of Rajbari district on night. The dead is Abdul Hamid, 35. Witnesses said heading towards Daulotdia Ferry Ghat from Paturia of Munshiganj district, launch ‘MV Runa’ collided head-on with ‘MV Parabat’ near No. 3 Ferry Ghat at Daulotdia around 8:00pm on Sunday. The deck railing at the front side of MV Runa was ripped apart and several passengers on the deck fell into Padma River due to the collision. Abdul Hamid died on the spot. Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority’s (BIWTA) Aricha port officer Kabir Hossain confirmed the incident, according to UNB.
