Launch disasters and piracy in coastal areas
Sunday, 31 August 2014
Motor launch Pinak-6 sank in the river recently. A week-long operation failed to find and salvage the vessel. The two salvage vessels, Rustam and Hamza, are too old and their lifting capacity is not compatible with our present-day launches. The design of many motor launches is not appropriate while overloading is common. The vessels do not usually have a sufficient number of lifebuoys. We should procure more salvage vessels. The Navy should be equipped with vessels to meet emergencies.
Every other day we learn through the media that pirates abduct fishermen and loot their catch of fishes. The pirates also capture fishing trawlers for ransom money. The government should take measures to prevent piracy and secure the coastal areas.
