Saturday, 29 December 2007

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nur Mohammad claimed Friday the law and order situation across the country improved this year compared to the previous years, reports UNB.
"Tendency of crime decreased compared to last year. Law and order situation is good," he told reporters at the end of annual general meeting (AGM) of Bangladesh Police Cooperative Society Ltd (BPCSL) at the Rajarbagh Police Line auditorium in the city.
"We are doing good thing but the common people have to perceive it," he said.
Replying to a question, the IGP said an excellent situation is prevailing in the country since the six top leaders of Islamic outfit JMB had been executed.
Terming the killing of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as sad, he said that such terrible incident was not expected by anyone.
Nur Mohammad said all units of police were ordered to remain alert across the country to avert any untoward incident.
He said activities of the police have been intensified and Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) are being put on alert with strict vigilance at diplomatic enclaves of Gulshan and Baridhara.
Earlier, addressing the AGM of BPCSL, IGP Nur Mohammad said: "We are trying to work for the welfare of police and establishment of a Police Bank is under active consideration."
The IGP, also chairman of the BPCSL, said planning of setting up six housing projects in six divisional headquarters is also under active consideration.
