Law-enforcers asked to ensure stable prices of essentials

The government has directed the law-enforcing agencies to remain alert, so that the prices of the essentials do not go up due to law and order situation, reports UNB.
The instruction was given from a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Law and Order, held Thursday at Home Ministry.
Law Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein chaired the meeting. Education Adviser Ayub Quadri, Communications Adviser MA Matin, Home Secretary Abdul Karim, chiefs of the law-enforcing and intelligence agencies, and concerned senior officials attended the meeting.
Briefing the reporters, Home Secretary Abdul Karim said, the meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation across the country, and expressed satisfaction.
He said, the law-enforcing agencies were ordered to monitor the prices of the essential commodities, and keep the market stable. The meeting also asked the law-enforcers to remain alert about illegal collection of toll on essentials.
The meeting was informed that stock of fertiliser is presently sufficient in the country. The law-enforcers were asked to monitor smooth distribution of fertiliser.
The meeting also directed them to keep vigil so that the conditions under which the ban on indoor politics was lifted are not violated, Karim said.
He said, the meeting decided to engage women police in the process of enrolment of voters. "Women Ansars can also be engaged, if women police are not sufficient," he said.
The meeting was satisfied over smooth celebration of Eid-ul-Fitre and Durga Puja. Besides, the law-enforcers were asked to ensure uninterrupted peace in the garments sector, the Home Secretary said.
The meeting gave permission to several organisations, including Dhaka Reporters Unity to hold their annual elections. The meeting also gave permission to observe the anniversary of death of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani on November 17.
