Law enforcers will maintain communal harmony during polls: CEC

Chief Election Commission (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday said it is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies to maintain communal harmony in the country before, after or during the election and they have to bear the responsibility if they fail to do that, reports UNB.
The CEC said these while talking to reporters after a delegation of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad led by its general secretary Advocate Rana Das Gupta met with him at the Election Commission Bhaban on Wednesday.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the CEC expressing their concern over the possible communal violence before and after the national election.
The CEC said they told the Oikya Parisahd leaders that they have taken the concern seriously as communal violence occurred in the past in Bangladesh centering the national election.
He said he told them that it is the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies to prevent violence before or after the election but the EC will inform the deputy commissioners, superintendents of police, Home Ministry and other concerned so that no violence happen.
He said, "I can't be accepted, it can't be a behavior of a civilized society, it is inhumane, we never allow such inhumane behavior."
