Lawyer beaten to death in Bashundhara Residential Area
FE REPORT | Friday, 2 January 2026
A lawyer was beaten to death in the capital's Bashundhara Residential Area on Wednesday night (31 December 2025), according to police.
The victim was identified as Naeem Kibria (35) according to Vatara Police Station.
Police quoting family sources said Naeem Kibria, son of Golam Kibria, hailed from Pabna Sadar upazila.
He worked as a lawyer at the Pabna District and Sessions Judge's Court.
Police said Naeem was driving a private car in the Bashundhara Residential Area around 10pm on Wednesday when the vehicle collided with a motorcycle.
Following the collision, a group of unidentified youths, including the motorcycle rider, dragged Naeem out of the car and beat him severely.
"They beat him brutally and left him lying on the road," said Sub-Inspector (SI) Ariful Islam of Vatara Police Station.
Upon receiving information, Naeem's cousin Rafiqul Islam rushed to the spot and took him to nearby Kurmitola General Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Police later recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for an autopsy.
Talking to the media, Rafiqul Islam said Naeem had arrived in Dhaka from Pabna about 10 days ago and had been staying at his house in Purbachal.
"There is a case against Naeem in Pabna related to the July uprising. He came to Dhaka to seek bail from the High Court in that case," Rafiqul said.
Describing the incident, he said Naeem had gone out in a friend's private car last night.
When he tried to contact him later, a security guard from the Bashundhara area answered the call and informed him that Naeem had been beaten and left critically injured.
"I immediately went there, rescued him and took him to the hospital," Rafiqul maintained.
He said that police were investigating the incident and trying to identify those involved.
