FE Report
A lawyer was stabbed to death by unknown miscreants at his house at Dhalpur in the city's Jatrabari area early Sunday, police said.
The victim, Advocate Shamsul Haque Rinto (45), was a resident of 60/28/C, Dhalpur in Jatrabari.
Mazharul, the victim's younger brother, told reporters that five to six miscreants came to the house at about 2:15am to steal coconuts from a coconut tree in the house.
The sound of falling coconuts woke up Rinto, who chased the criminals and nabbed one of them, which resulted in a scuffle.
Having failed to steal the fruits, the criminals became furious and started stabbing the lawyer indiscriminately. The assailants left the place leaving behind the ill-fated counsel injured.
"Critically wounded Rinto was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where attending doctors pronounced him dead," Mazharul said.
An officer of Jatrabari police station told the FE that Chand Miah, who was held by Rinto, has been taken into custody and was being interrogated.
A case was filed with the local police.
