Wednesday, 21 February 2018

Lawyers of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia filed an appeal with the High Court challenging her sentence in the Zia Orphanage Trust case on Tuesday afternoon, reports UNB.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal, law affairs secretary of BNP, said they filed the appeal around 3:30 pm with the High Court against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's sentence in the graft case.
The court set February 22 to hear the appeal after it was placed before a bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Shahidul Karim, he said.
The BNP lawyers will also file a petition with the High Court seeking Khaleda's bail on Thursday.
After receiving the 1174-page certified copy of Khaleda's verdict, BNP standing committee member and one of Khaleda's counsels Moudud Ahmed said they will try to file the appeal and seek bail for her as early as possible.
