Our Correpondent | Sunday, 15 June 2008

KHULNA, June 14: Raj Textile Mills has been declared laid-off recently. Production was suspended on Sunday last due to crisis of raw materials and incurring of loss. After three days frustration has been found among the workers and employees for the declaration of lay-off by the authority on Wednesday.

According to sources, the mill situated at Nowapara of Jessore district was established by a local entrepreneur in '90s. Nearly 600 workers were employed there. The mill was running smoothly two years age. But the mill incurred a huge loss of about Tk. 30 million during the last two years.

Before declaring lay-off the mill authority advised the workers and employees to work on casual basis but they did not agree. In this connection a meeting will be held at the Jessore Deputy Commissioner's office next week with the labour leaders and the mill authority.
