Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), headed by Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, Bir Bikram, is the first registered political party in the country, reports BSS.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda Monday handed over the registration certificate to its president Col Oli Ahmed at the conference room of the Election Commission (EC). Two other election commissioners, Sohul Hossain and Brig Gen(retd) M Shakhawat Hossain were present.
After the handing over, the CEC said, the aim of registration of the political parties is to strengthen democracy, introduce a healthy political trend and ensure transparency.
The EC believes that under a legal frame any political party can promote its objectives and ideals. The EC won't create any hindrance to activities of any political party, the CEC said.
He said relations would be established between the EC and the political parties through the registration. It's a good start for democracy, he added.
Talking to journalists, Oli said he was overwhelmed with joy to become a part of history by earning recognition for LDP as the first registered political party.
