Learning lessons from Nimtali tragedy
Tuesday, 15 June 2010
Apropos of the cause of the hellish inferno at Nimtali of old Dhaka and the tragic burning alive of 117 innocent men, women and children I would like to recall a devastating fire that broke out at a petrol/kerosine godown in Wyer Street, Wari residential area, Dhaka and affected nearby residential buildings and flats about two years ago.
The people of the locality demanded removal of the petrol/kerosene godown from Wari residential are a but nothing has happened though more than two years have passed. The Fire Brigade, Municipal Ward Commissioner, Dhaka City Corporation, Dhaka district administration and the ministries concerned have not taken any positive step or precautionary measure to remove/shift the petrol/ kerosene godown from Wari residential area.
Would our moribund authorities concerned take a lesson from the Nimtali tragedy?
