Learning to eat well

Learning to eat well | Thursday, 17 February 2022

A recent survey has found that most of our people consume inadequate levels of fruits and vegetables. It was found that in Bangladesh 75 per cent of urban and 92 per cent of rural people take less than 40 grams of fruits and vegetables per day. This low intake of fruits and vegetables can put us at a greater risk of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disorders, diabetes or cancers, often leading to premature death.
Every region in the country grows different varieties of fresh fruit throughout the year. But most of us do not have access to adequate fruits and vegetables. Even those from middle- or high-income households, avoid fruits in favour of processed food. It is time we learnt to eat well and prioritise basic requirements of our health.
