Leased out barren CHT land to be allotted to landless people: Bir Bahadur

RANGAMATI, Sept 4 (BSS): Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Bir Bahadur MP said land, which was leased out to influential quarters for rubber plantation and horticulture gardens, would be allotted to landless people after canceeling those lease.
Stern action would be taken against the encroachers of land belonging to members of ethnic minority communities in the hills, said Bir Bahadur, also a member of the parliamentary standing committee of the ministry of CHT Affairs.
A survey is being carried out to cancel the lease of land as rubber or horticulture gardens have not been raised, said the MP-elect from Bandarban constituency for three consecutive terms with the Awami League ticket.
The government has cancelled lease of 260 plots for violating the terms and conditions and leaving the land barren, he said.
Reiterating the government decision in resolving land disputes in the CHT at a ceremony as the chief guest, he said it's an ongoing process.
He was laying the foundation of a two-storied building of Junior High School at Cahimbuk under Sadar Upazila in the hill district of Bandarban Wednesday.
