The left-leaning student alliance has announced its panel under the banner of Democratic Students' Council for the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU) elections.
The announcement was made on Monday evening at a press conference held at the university's Transport Market, chaired by Rakib Hossain, president of Democratic Students' Council.
The panel has been formed with representatives from Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Revolutionary Student Unity, Socialist Students' Front, Democratic Students' Council, Revolutionary Students-Youth Movement, and the Greater Chittagong Hill Tracts Students' Council.
Fuad Ratul, convener of the Socialist Students' Front, has been nominated for the vice-president (VP) position, while Md. Kawsar Ahmed will run for the general secretary (GS) position. Nasim Sarkar will compete for the assistant general secretary (AGS) position.
Other key nominations include Tarek Ashraf for cultural secretary; Shreyoshi Roy for women's affairs secretary; Md. Hasan Shahriar Khondaker Alif for research and information secretary; Md. Sajib Ali for assistant secretary (research and information); Fahim Muntasir Rafin for media and publication secretary; Muntasir Tasin for science and technology secretary; Research Chakma for assistant science and technology secretary; Azmain Atik for environment and welfare secretary; and Shameen Tripura for assistant environment and welfare secretary.
For the executive member positions, Asad Sadiq Rafi, Ahmed Imtiaz Soikat, Md. Sajjad Sheikh, and Md. Junayed have been nominated. For the five student representative seats in the university senate, the nominees are Md. Hasan Shahriar Khondaker Alif, Asad Sadiq Rafi, Md. Kawsar Ahmed, Fuad Ratul, and Fahim Muntasir Rafin.
Speaking at the event, VP nominee Fuad Ratul said: "RUCSU belongs to the students. But the highest authority is still vested in the hands of the vice-chancellor, who holds the president's post by default. If elected, we will work to curtail the VC's powers and establish students in the leadership of RUCSU."
