Legal battle if sit-in not allowed: Manna
FE Report | Friday, 30 January 2015
Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna at a function in the city on Thursday warned that they would file a writ with the High Court if the authorities concerned don't allow them to stage a sit-in at Suhrawardy Udyan Saturday next.
He said Nagorik Oikya, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal and Gono Forum are set to organise the programme in protest at the ongoing political impasse and violence.
Mr Manna expressed concern over apathy of both the AL and BNP centring the SSC (Secondary School Certificate) examination (scheduled to be held from February 2), saying that nobody bothers about it.
He was also critical of the prevailing violent political activities of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Meanwhile, Krishak Sramik Janata League under the leadership of its chief Bangabir Kader Siddique continued its indefinite sit-in in front of its Motijheel office.
The party called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to arrange a dialogue and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to withdraw the blockade. It also urged the BNP to announce other sorts of protest programmes.
