Legal notice for Altaf\\\'s appointment

A supreme court lawyer has served a legal notice, seeking ABM Altaf Hossain’s permanent appointment as a High Court judge. The notice by Md Idrisur Rahman was sent to the secretaries of law ministry, president and prime minister’s secretariat, and the Supreme Court registrar on Sunday. Hossain was among six appointed as High Court judges in June, 2012. All, except him, were made permanent in June this year. Rahman wants that Hossain be made permanent within 72 hours of getting the notice and the appointment given effect from the day the other five were regularised. Otherwise, a writ (petition) would be filed to challenge the ‘discrimination’, he said. The notice says, as judge, Hossain is a ‘skilled’ professional with an ‘attractive’ educational background. Some of his verdicts had featured in the ‘Rai Journal’, Dhaka Law Reports (DLR) and Bangladesh Law Chronicles (BLC), it said. The Chief Justice looked into ten of Hossain’s verdicts as in case of the others after finishing two years as an additional judge. He then recommended permanent status for all six, but the president left Hossain out without assigning reasons, the notice said, according to a news agency.
