Leguna drivers are threat to road safety
Saturday, 9 August 2014
Much has been talked about bus drivers and truck drivers but not enough about leguna drivers who are not any less dangerous or reckless. Compared to drivers of other motorised vehicles, leguna drivers tend to be much younger, more reckless and less aware of traffic rules and road safety. In fact, word has it that people who choose driving as their career start with driving leguna and then work their way up by becoming drivers of other vehicles. Some of the leguna drivers are teenagers who lack professional training about driving motorised vehicles. They are seen to be driving recklessly, speeding, and slowing down in the middle of the roadway to load or unload passengers.
What is very alarming is that they hardly ever come to a complete stop at the designated stoppage to load or unload passengers safely. They expect passengers to jump off the running leguna in the middle of the road. Similarly they want the boarding passengers to jump into their vehicles, that too on the middle of the road. Road accidents because of such insensible driving behaviour of leguna drivers occur on a regular basis. Even after continuous warnings from passengers to be concerned about road safety they seem to completely ignore it. We urge the authority concerned to be strict on the leguna drivers; otherwise it may invite catastrophe any moment, and cause hazard for other vehicles.
