Lemon cultivation gaining popularity in Chuadanga

CHUADANGA, Aug 6: Cultivation of lemon is becoming popular among the farmers in 4 upazilas of Chuadanga district as it has proved more profitable recently.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 335 bighas of land has been brought under lemon cultivation this year in four upazilas of the district. Of them 105 bighas of land has been brought under lemon cultivation in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, 90 bighas in Damurhuda Upazila, 85 bighas in Alamdanga Upazila and 55 bighas in Jibannagar Upazila.
Many farmers in the district have become self-reliant and changed their lot through the lemon cultivation during the last few years. Farmers of Chuadanga district have been cultivating various high yielding of lemon commercially.
Shamsher Ali, a lemon cultivator of village Nafarkandi under Chuadanga Sadar Upazila said, "I have been getting handsome profit through cultivating lemon on commercial basis for the last several years."
Another lemon cultivator, Jasim Mondal, of village Athrokhada of Alamdanga Upazila said, "I have cultivated lemon on 3 bighas of land spending Tk 45,000. I am expecting to earn Tk 70, 000 net profit from the produce after meeting all expenditure."
