Lentil, vegetables, fish dearer as rice, onion fall

Lentil, vegetables and small fish were dearer while rice, onion and potato were cheaper over the last week, according to sources at different city markets.
The price of local lentil was up in the kitchen market and was selling at Tk 114 per kg against Tk 112 per kg while the imported Indian, Nepalese and Turkish varieties were steady at Tk 90-Tk 100 per kg.
Prices of rice witnessed a downward trend in the city at the retail level, market sources said Friday.
Minicate variety of rice was selling at Tk 41 per kg, down from Tk 42 per kg while Nazirshail was steady at Tk 44-Tk 46 per kg at the retail level.
Course rice including Pari and Swarna was selling at Tk 30 per kg, down by Tk 3-Tk 4 and BR-28 at Tk 35 per kg, down from Tk 38 per kg. IRRI was steady at Tk 30 per kg.
The prices of both local and imported onion decreased by Tk 2 at the retail level. The local variety was selling at Tk 28 per kg and imported Indian variety at Tk 26 per kg.
Prices of ginger remained steady in the kitchen market last week. The local variety was selling at Tk 90 per kg and the imported variety at Tk 110 per kg.
Non-brand sugar was selling at Tk 55 per kg and the sugar with brand name was priced at Tk 56 to Tk 60 a kg in the last week.
Prices of vegetable items witnessed an upward trend in the city's kitchen markets, the sources said.
Carrot was selling at Tk 20-Tk 22 against Tk 18 per kg, brinjal at Tk 25- Tk 30, up from Tk 22-Tk 25 per kg, bean at Tk 24-Tk 30, bitter gourd at Tk 48 up from Tk 40 per kg, a cauliflower at Tk 20 which was at Tk 15, a cabbage at Tk 20- Tk 25 from Tk 15 and a medium-size gourd at Tk 25-Tk 35.
Green chili was selling at Tk 48 per kg, papaya at Tk 20 per kg, lady's finger at Tk 32 per kg, tomato at Tk 20 per kg and 'Khirai', a variety of small cucumber, at Tk 30 per kg last week.
The price of newly arrived potato fell by Tk 2 and was selling at Tk 10 per kg.
The price of the Rupchanda brand edible oil in five-litre containers was selling at Tk 452, while Teer was priced at Tk 455 and ACI at Tk 455 last week.
Non-brand edible oil such as palm oil, super palm and soybean was selling in the range between Tk 80 and Tk 90 per litre.
The prices of both local and imported garlic fell in the local market. The local garlic was selling at Tk 100 per kg against Tk 110 per kg and the imported variety at Tk 80 per kg which was Tk 100 per kg in the earlier week.
Prices of small fish witnessed an upward trend in the city's kitchen market, the sources said.
A pair of medium-size Hilsha fish was selling at Tk 800-Tk 1,000 while shrimp was selling at Tk 500-Tk 900 per kg.
'Katla' was selling at Tk 180-Tk 220, 'Poa' at Tk 220 and 'Boal' at Tk 500 per kg.
'Kachki' was selling at Tk 280 against Tk 220 and 'Telapia' at Tk 120 to Tk 180 per kg, 'Puti' at Tk 250-Tk 300 against Tk 200 and 'Tengra' at Tk 300 against Tk 250 a kg on an average.
Pangas was selling at Tk 120 per kg, which was Tk 100 per kg a week ago.
The price of poultry birds was Tk 145 per kg and those of beef and mutton were Tk 230 and Tk 330-Tk 380 a kg respectively.
