Seventeen journalists from leading media houses in Bangladesh attended a three?day media training workshop, organised by IFC Global Corporate Governance Forum in partnership with the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) and Thomson Reuters Foundation.
The workshop, held at the BEI conference room, helped journalists explore the vital role corporate governance played in boosting economic growth in Bangladesh and developing countries in general, said a press release.
"The media has a critical role to play in raising awareness of corporate governance issues,' said Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad at the closing ceremony of the workshop. "A company's reputation is enhanced by good corporate governance practices," he added.
The forum has been working with journalists around the world including countries in the Middle East and Africa, Southern Europe, Latin America, Central Asia and South and East Asia to improve their corporate governance reporting.
This helps them enhance their unique role in supporting enforcement and disseminating information to the business community, investors and the public.
