LFMEAB members win OSH good practice award

Apex Footwear Ltd., Maf Shoes Ltd. and Picard Bangladesh Ltd, three members of Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) were awarded with the "Good Practice Award-2019" in Occupational Health & Safety for their outstanding contribution to ensuring occupational safety and health (OSH) at their respective factories.
Good Practice Award-2019 in Occupational Health & Safety was presented by the Ministry of Labour & Employment recently at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh, Dhaka, said a statement.
Three LFMEAB members received the honour in the 'leathergoods' category for the concerted efforts from both owners and employees for ensuring a healthy and safe working environment.
The programme was presided over by State Minister of Ministry of Labour & Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian. Minister of Commerce Tipu Munsi was the chief guest of the ceremony. Among other guests, Country Director of ILO in Bangladesh Tuomo Poutiainen and the ambassador of The Netherlands in Bangladesh Harry Verweij were also present.
Monnujan Sufian, in her speech, emphasized on the consistency of such recognitions in manufacturing sector.
Mr. Tipu Munsi highlighted how occupational health & safety can change the landscape of manufacturing and export sector.
The Managing Director of Picard Bangladesh, Mr. Saiful Islam indicated that occupational health and safety is not a momentary concern, rather a continuous process. He further added that in this age of ever-changing international occupational health & safety parameters, it is important to integrate them in local standards for a sustainable industrial development, which could help Bangladesh become the next "Global Manufacturing Hub".
