LG Electronics launches mobile phone handsets

LG Electronics, the world's leading consumer electronics supplier, is entering the mobile handset market of Bangladesh as the country has, the company believes, an important and strategic marketplace in South Asia region. The company will launch handsets-- both featured and smart phone. The price range of the products is from Tk 6600 to Tk 41000. Electra Mobile will market the product officially in the country. This was disclosed at a press conference at a city hotel Wednesday. Managing Director of LG Mobile Bangladesh Changkeun Song and General Manger of Electra Mobile Abu Sufian Khan briefed about the facilities of LG handset and its marketing system. The handset will be available in the country from 23 December in all authorised retail outlets and Grameenphone Centres and the customers will have a one-year local service warranty from LG Service Partners and Mobile Cares across the country, said Abu Sufian. He said anyone who will buy a LG handset will get a Qubee USB modem free. The offer will continue to 25 December, he added. Bangladesh is an enormous potential for mobile phone manufacturers as the people getting accustomed to the digital culture, mobile phones have become an essential part of life, said Changkeun Song. The company aims to set up a branch office in Dhaka in 2012 to increase both the Mobile & the Consumer Electronics business, he added. Among the handsets, LG Optimus 2X (P990), the World's 1st Smart Phone with NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core CPU and LG Optimus Black (P970), slimmest device, are smart phones, while LG Rosemary (S365), LG Dynamite (GX200) and LG Cherry (T500) are featured phones. - FE Report BIMSTEC needs to play stronger role: CCCI BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) needs to play a stronger role in ensuring the socio-economic development of South and Southeast Asia, says a business leader. Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Morshed Murad Ibrahim said this when a five-member delegation of Thailand, an influential member of BIMSTEC, met him at his office Wednesday. Welcoming the delegation, Ibrahim said that the direct connection of the proposed Trans-Asia road and railway with Chittagong would turn the port city even more important in the world forum as it is situated between South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Manitya Watchanahpraphan who led the delegation, said a joint business forum would be formed on February 2012 to tap the potentials of 16 selected sectors. Among others, CCCI senior vice-president Mahbubul Alam, vice president M Nurun Newaz Selim, directors Mahfujul Haque Shah and Morshed Arir Chowdhury were present. - UNB
