LGED signs deals for constructing bridges in Magura, Jessore

The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) on Tuesday signed an agreement with a Bangladesh-China joint venture construction firm to construct 2 bridges in Magura and Jessore districts. LGED executive engineer of Magura Mirza M Iftekher Ali and executive engineer of Jessore Abu M Shahriar signed the 2 agreements with officials of the construction firm Max Ran Ken (JV) at the LGED Bhaban in the city. State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder and LGED chief engineer M Wahidur Rahman were present on the occasion. The two bridges will be constructed at a cost of Tk 1.386 million (Tk 138.6 crore) under the Upazila and Union Parishad Roads Bridge Construction project of the LGED in 2 years’ time. Of the two bridges, Tk 590.93 million has been allocated for building a 600-metre-long ‘PC girder  bridge’ over the Modhumoti River at Englang Ghat of Mohammadpur Upazila in Magura, while Tk 780.15m for constructing a 693-metre-long ‘PC girder  bridge’ over the Bhairab River at Noapara of Abhaynagar Upazila in Jessore. About 0.25 million people of the two districts are expected to be benefited once the bridges are constructed, according to an official release.
