Libel cases against Farroque to continue

Wednesday, 23 June 2010

The Supreme Court Tuesday cleared the way for the stalled trials of seven identical libel cases filed against Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque, now on bail, to resume, reports UNB.
Vacation chamber Judge SK Sinha passed the orders following a government petition seeking a stay on the operation of the May 18 High Court (HC) orders that had halted the proceedings of the libel cases filed against Farroque.
The libel cases were filed against Farroque by district level leaders of the Awami League (AL) on different dates in the courts of Shariatpur, Nilphamari, Rangpur, Bogra, Pabna, Sylhet and Dhaka for making 'derogatory remarks' against the Prime Minister's son Sajeeb Wajed Joy.
