Liberation War glorious chapter of national life, says Iftekhar

HABIGANJ, Jan 12 (BSS): Adviser for Foreign Affairs Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said today the liberation war is a glorious chapter in our life and the freedom fighters are our pride.
"The freedom fighters do not belong to any party. They all belong to us and it is our duty to show respect to them," the adviser said while speaking at a function organised marking the 17th death anniversary of Commandant Manik Chowdhury at the Habiganj District Lawyers' Association office here.
Chowdhury said the present generation is forgetting the contribution of the freedom fighters. But, we earned this soil at the cost of their supreme sacrifice, he said.
He said the present government had shown due respect to the freedom fighters and the mortal remains of the Birshresthas were brought back to the country. He said the foreign ministry played an effective role in this connection.
The adviser further said the government is trying to bring the freedom fighters under rationing system.
Chaired by Advocate Syed Afroz Bakht, the function was also addressed, among others, by former Army Chief Major General (retd) KM Shafiulla, Major General (retd) CR Dutta, former Army Chief Lieutenant General (retd) Harun-ar-Rashid, Lieutenant Colonel (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury, former finance minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit, former chairman of Muktijohddha Command Council Principal Abdul Ahad Chowdhury, Hossain Tawfiq Imam, Mahbub Uddin Chowdhury, Advocate Syed Rezaur Rahman, Advocate Chowdhury Abdul Hye, Syed Mohsin Ali, Dr. CM Delwar Rana and Faizul Bashir Sujan.
