Life expectancy in BD rises to 70.1 years

Life expectancy of the people in the country increased in 2013 to 70.1 years from 69.4 years in 2012, according to the findings of the Sample Vital Registration System 2009-2013 revealed on Sunday.
The mortality rate remained static at 5.3 per 1000 in 2013 compared to 5.3 in 2012. The death rate was 5.5 in 2011, 5.6 in 2010 and 5.8 in 2009.
The life expectancy rate of women was higher at 71.4 in 2013 from 70.7 years in 2012, 70.3 in 2011, 68.8 in 2010 and 68.7 in 2009. For men the life expectancy increased to 68.8 years in 2013 from 68.2 in 2012, 67.9 in 2011, 66.6 in 2010 and 66.1 in 2009.
The report prepared by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) under Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh Project also showed that the crude birth rate per 1000 population increased to 19 in 2013 from 18.9 in 2012, but decreased from 19.2 in 2011.
But the fertility rate of the 15-19 age group increased significantly to 60 per 1000 women from 53 in 2012.
The under-five mortality rate decreased to 41 in 2013, from 42 in 2012. Maternal mortality rate also decreased to 1.97 per 1000 live births in 2013 from 2.03 in 2012, 2.09 in 2011, 2.16 in 2010 and 2.59 in 2009.
The in-migration rate decreased nationally to 38.5 per cent from 40.2 per cent in 2012.
Crude disability rate decreased nationally to 10.8 per 1000 population in 2013 from 10.10 in 2012. The number of male-headed households increased to 88.4 per cent in 2013 from 85.5 per cent in 2012. On the other hand, the number of female-headed households decreased to 11.6 per cent from 14.5 per cent in 2012.
The report mentioned that access to water increased, when it comes to drinking water and other use of taps and tubewells. Access to drinking water increased to 98.5 per cent in 2013 from 98.3 per cent in 2012. The other use of taps and tubewells rose to 63.7 per cent from 60.5 per cent in 2012.
Sanitary facilities also increased to 64.2 per cent from 63.8 per cent in 2012 while the electricty use increased to 66.9 per cent from 65.6 per cent.
