Life insurance cos have immense possibilities, says Faruque Khan

Life insurance companies have immense possibilities in Bangladesh as 95 per cent of her people are yet away from insurance, said Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruque Khan Saturday.
He was speaking at Baira life insurance company's annual conference, held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, as the chief guest.
Chairman of the company Abul Bashar presided over the programme while State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative Jahangir Kabir Nanak spoke as the special guest.
The commerce minister said in developed countries 75-80 per cent of their population are under insurance coverage while it is only 5.0 per cent in Bangladesh.
Baira insurance company's present capital is Tk 500 million with 440 branches and 50500 employees.
Fifty-three persons were given prizes on the occasion for securing highest premium.
M A Sobhan Bhuiyan, vice-chairman and A K M Ilius Hossain, managing director of the company, among others, spoke on the occasion.
