Life of power rate increases China's cotton industry

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua): The National Development and Reform Commission's raise of the power rate by 0.025 yuan per kwh, will bring about addition 1.288 billion yuan cost for cotton textile industry, said experts.

Wang Qianjin, chief-editor of Web Textiles.com, said that the power cost in common cotton mills accounts for six to eight per cent of manufacturing cost. At present, per ton yarn of cotton mill costs 1,100 kwh electricity, if the electricity price rises 0.025 yuan per kwh, the cotton mill will increase 1.05 billion yuan burdens a year.

The spinning of per 100 meters grey cloth costs 14 kwh electricity. The output of cloth totaled 68.1 billion meters in 2007 and used 9.5 billion kwh electricity. If the price of electricity goes up 0.025 yuan, then the cost of cotton mill will increase 238 million yuan.

Wang said that the cost of electricity of cotton textile industry will increase 1.288 billion yuan if power rate up 0.025 yuan per kwh based on the output of yarn and cloth in 2007, accounting for 4.18 per cent of the total profits of cotton textile industry.
